"I burned out doing everything right. What shocked me was how wrong all the standard advice was."
About Natalie
I’m Natalie Rose Mich, a burnout educator, writer, speaker, and licensed acupuncturist. I have worked in healthcare since 2004 and have been in clinical practice since 2013.
Before becoming an acupuncturist, I worked in hospital laboratory medicine, where I saw healthcare from inside a large medical system. I later founded Family Care Acupuncture & Health Center in Oregon City, Oregon, and spent more than a decade caring for patients while managing the clinical, emotional, and financial demands of running a healthcare practice.
I know burnout not only as a subject I study and teach, but as something I have lived through. I reached the point where ordinary advice about balance, resilience, and self-care no longer explained what was happening. The problem was not that I had failed to take care of myself. The problem was that years of responsibility, overextension, financial pressure, emotional labor, and repeated self-abandonment had changed the way my nervous system responded to work, decisions, boundaries, and rest.
That experience became the foundation of my work.
I write and teach about the deeper mechanics of burnout: the nervous-system patterns that keep clinicians in overdrive, the invisible contracts that make boundaries feel dangerous, the practitioner wounds that shape how we care for others, and the healthcare systems that routinely transfer their costs onto the people doing the caring.
My approach combines lived experience, more than twenty years inside healthcare, thirteen years of direct patient care, and a realistic understanding of what clinicians can change while continuing to work.
My work has been published in Acupuncture Today, and I have taught continuing education on clinician burnout for healthcare professionals. I am also writing Burnout Balm: A Field Manual for Practitioner Burnout Recovery.
I am not interested in teaching clinicians how to tolerate more harm with a better morning routine. I am interested in helping them understand what burnout has changed, interrupt the patterns that keep it going, and build a way of working that no longer requires them to disappear from their own lives.
